Short Bio of Ms. Leslie Mulligan

Speaker: Leslie Mulligan MS, EdS, LCPC, DCC who presented “Women in the Military”.  Ms. Mulligan is a psychotherapist currently proving mental and behavioral health care to veterans at the Greensboro Vet Center.  She is a veteran herself, having served in the Air Force prior to returning to graduate school to earn her Master degree in Mental Health Counseling in 1998.  Ms. Mulligan has extensive experience with military mental health needs. She has been an Adult Military Family Life and Child and Youth Consultant (2010-2011), and Director of Psychological Health for the Rhode Island (2011-2012) and the Maine Air Guard (2012-2013), providing behavioral and mental health services to active duty and reserve military service members on Air Guard bases until 2014.  Since then she has focused on helping veterans (and their families) readjust from combat trauma and military sexual trauma at VA Vet Centers, first in Wisconsin, and now in North Carolina.  Here is how she describes what she does: “On a daily basis, I help people recover their quality of life and redefine who they are after having served in the military and losing their peace of mind. No two people respond to anything the same way, but military culture is a very unique it takes effort to understand for anyone who has not served. Helping men and women “come home” to their families and communities, and to themselves, is a profound honor and privilege for me. Increasing understanding between people is also a great pleasure.
