MINUTES

MEMBERS PRESENT: Edith Alcorn, Greg Alcorn, Nancy Bilson, Carol A. Cody,Holly Czuba, Becky Hammill, Eileen Hanson-Kelly, Linda Hauze, Bonnie Hodges,Jeannie Sherrill, Kelly Snipes, Brenda Walker

GUESTS PRESENT: This meeting was open to the general public and several members from the community attended.

WELCOME: Members and guests were welcomed by Holly Czuba on behalf of AAUW-Salisbury President, Brunetta Franklin. Holly also thanked the sponsors for the evening especially RCCC for providing the space, and provided a brief overview of AAUW including the organization’s mission, history and current projects.

Paula Dibley from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College welcomed the group on behalf of the college.

SPEAKER: Holly welcomed the speakers for the evening, Vicky Slusser (Communities in Schools of Rowan County) and Cynthia Kaminski (Science Teacher at Henderson High School) who spoke to the group on the subject of Hostile Hallways: Bullying, Teasing and Sexual Harassment in Schools. Following the presentation a discussion was facilitated by Holly Czuba and the presenters entertained questions from the audience.

BUSINESS: Due to the nature of this presentation a formal business session was not conducted today.

ADJOURNMENT: It was noted that the AAUW National Convention will be held on June 9-12, 2013 in New Orleans, and the North Carolina State Convention will be held in Burlington, NC in the spring. Holly Czuba thanked the presenters and all of the members and guests who attended and the meeting was adjourned.
